Urgent Demand to Implement Traffic Calming Measures on Frant Road & Surrounding Streets

The Issue

My family and I live on Frant Road in Tunbridge Wells. In just the month of December alone, we have witnessed two serious accidents. Our own car was hit by a driver speeding up Frant Road. Every morning, children gather at the bus stop waiting for their school bus and due to lack of crossings and traffic calming measures, it is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt or killed.

Over the past couple of years, traffic has exponentially increased due to deliveries, large commercial trucks and expansion of communities outside Tunbridge Wells. This street - home to schools, shops, churches and residences - has seen multiple accidents caused by cars speeding up and down the road as speed limits are not clearly marked.

Our beloved neighbourhood on Frant Road, characterised by its vibrant mosaic of small businesses, an educational hub in the form of our local school, and a harmonious blend of families with young children, actively contributes to our rich community fabric. The presence of an engaged community church and our respected elderly residents, many of whom rely on walking and public transportation, adds to the diverse tapestry of our area. With a steady stream of residents, including school children, reversing out of driveways, and individuals walking to town, the need for traffic calming measures on Frant Road has never been more urgent. Implementing these measures is crucial not only to reclaim the residential feel of our neighbourhood but also to safeguard the health and safety of all who call this place home. In light of these factors, we strongly advocate for the introduction of traffic calming strategies to ensure a safer, more peaceful, and cohesive community environment.

The quality of life for residents is being severely impacted by this issue. We urgently need traffic calming measures implemented on this residential street to ensure safety for all its users. A 20 mph zone along with a speed camera would be effective solutions in controlling the speed at which vehicles travel down our road.  Other measures such as a traffic mini roundabout at the intersection of Frant Rd and Bayham Rd and speed humps should also be considered.

We call upon our Ms. Becki Bruneau, Councilwoman for Tunbridge Wells South (Conservative) and our local council in Tunbridge Wells to take immediate action towards implementing these changes before any more lives are put at risk unnecessarily. Please sign this petition if you care about making our community safer for everyone who lives here or visits us.
