Will the judge use her authority and access to resources to help this person with their substance use disorder? Or will he be set free and allowed to continue to take advantage of this community and potentially overdose on Coral street like so many others?
Do the right thing Judge de la Pena! Have real compassion and mandate treatment for this person!
From KIR:
In the news- March 24th…
The day began in the “Leftmost City” at about 12:17am with the arrest of 48 year old transient {redacted} on a warrant and a crack pipe. (SCPD Case# 25S-01458/ Booking# B-615738)
Here’s the story on the warrant…
On December 18th, 2024, He was arrested on the East Levee at Soquel Ave around midnight for felony possession of hard drugs with 2+ prior convictions. Bail amount was $15,000.00. This being one of the first arrests (if not the first) under Prop 36, the DA’s Office filed a criminal complaint that same day.
He was arraigned on December 20th, where the Honorable Nancy de la Pena released him to pretrial own recognizance. Needless to say, He hasn’t appeared in court since, necessitating a bench warrant for his arrest. There isn’t a date set yet for a court appearance, but I imagine de la Pena and this person will be reunited before the week is over.
