Judge de la Pena is up for election in 2026.
From KIR:
A 29 year-old was arrested today on a warrant involving an animal cruelty conviction. He was plucked from under the West Cliff Trestle at 9:24am. (SCPD Case# 25S-01323/ Booking# B-615646)
The offense occurred on October 12th last year, in the area of Soquel Ave and Pacific at about 4pm. Responding Officers were told that a male subject was hitting his dog and choking it, and throwing it around. Dispatchers could hear the dog screaming in the background.
He was arrested, and a $50,000.00 bail amount was applied. The Honorable Nancy de la Pena released him to pretrial own recognizance three days later.
He was convicted on 3 counts of misdemeanor resisting arrest on March 5th. Judge Sayar sentenced him to 176 days in jail, “time served,” and released him to unsupervised county probation.
So… he did no jail time, and won’t be supervised on probation. That's the same as "nothing."
