Urgent Community Concern Regarding New Town Shopping Center

Urgent Community Concern Regarding New Town Shopping Center
The Issue
I am starting this petition to express my deep concern on behalf of the Owings Mills/New Town community regarding the continued vacancy of the former grocery store lot in the New Town Shopping Center.
The absence of a food store in this central location has had far-reaching effects on the well-being and stability of our community. Most recently, the incident that occurred on the Fourth of July was yet another example in a troubling pattern of escalating disturbances—many of which can be traced back to the lack of positive, community-serving use of this space.
The residents of Owings Mills/ New Town deserve access to fresh food, economic opportunity, and a safe, vibrant community hub. Instead, we are left with a vacant lot that has become a magnet for crime, loitering, and disorder.
We urge you to make it a priority to bring a food store—or another essential community-serving resource—to this location as soon as possible. The health, safety, and morale of our residents are at stake.
We remain hopeful that you will act with urgency and in partnership with the community to restore this vital asset to its intended purpose.
Sincerely,
Tyrod Haynes
