Dear United States Congress member,
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the ongoing war in Sudan, which has led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent history. This conflict has resulted in massive disruptions to the economy, infrastructure, and healthcare of millions of people who are caught in the crosshairs. The following are the dire conditions faced by the Sudanese people:
- Displacement: Over 8.5 million people have been displaced, forced to leave their homes in search of safety and access to basic necessities.
- Food Insecurity: Approximately 18 million citizens, including 9 million children, are experiencing acute food shortages, putting them at risk of malnutrition and starvation.
- Healthcare Collapse: More than 90% of hospitals, especially in the capital of Khartoum, are non-functional, with all regional hospitals facing severe shortages of equipment and medications. This has led to the spread of communicable diseases like cholera and numerous childhood diseases, resulting in thousands of fatalities.
- Economic Collapse: The war has severely halted economic activities, leading to skyrocketing poverty rates and mass unemployment. Families are struggling to survive without basic income.
- Infrastructure Breakdown: Essential services such as power, water, and sanitation have been significantly disrupted, making daily life untenable for millions.
- Education Crisis: The conflict has deprived roughly 24 million children of their right to education, significantly hindering future generations.
Action Requested:
- Acknowledge the current crisis in Sudan as the worse humanitarian crisis in modern history.
- Increase humanitarian aid to address the immediate needs of the Sudanese people, such as food, clean water, medical supplies, and shelter.
We believe that with the support of the international community, particularly the United States, there can be hope for a peaceful resolution in Sudan. We urge you to act swiftly and decisively before more lives are lost.
