A Tehran doctor told TIME, speaking on condition of anonymity, that just six hospitals in the capital have recorded at least 217 protester deathsmost caused by live ammunition.

Because of the ongoing internet shutdown, the world still does not know the true scale of the killings in Iran — and major media are clearly underestimating the death toll.

This is not a nationwide count.
This is not even a full count of Tehran.
This is what surfaced despite censorship.

If hundreds of deaths are being recorded in only a handful of hospitals in one city, the actual number of civilians killed across the country may already be in the thousands.

The blackout is not incidental.
It is how massacres are hidden.
