The Issue

An urgent and distressing incident has been recorded by a passerby where a calf was dragged by a car, while his/her mother helplessly running behind. Despite witnessing the event, the passerby could not stop the car but managed to capture it on video. This was reported on (02.07.2024)  in News18Assam but no other media channels have covered the story. The perpetrator is reported to be an employee of the company involved in the construction and renovation of the Dhola Sadiya Bridge in Assam. It is feared that the calf has succumbed to its injuries and received no medical assistance.

This act of cruelty is not only a grave violation of animal rights but also poses a significant threat to societal values and safety. Those who harm animals are threats to humans as well and they are often capable of further harmful actions, hence it is imperative to address this issue promptly and effectively.

We earnestly appeal to the Officer in Charge of the Sadiya police station and the Superintendent of Sadiya police under Tinsukia district for the justice of this innocent life and urge to take prompt action against the individual responsible for such heinous crime. It is crucial to set a precedent that such inhumane acts will not be tolerated, ensuring that no other animal suffers a similar fate.

We trust that you will take this matter seriously and initiate the necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future. The protection of animals is our constitutional right and anyone attempting to kill or maim them is punishable under the law.
