Urgent Appeal for Action against Human Rights Violations in Pakistan

Urgent Appeal for Action against Human Rights Violations in Pakistan
The Issue
Open Letter to Members of the UN Human Rights Committee, International Court of Justice, and Supreme Court of Pakistan.
We urgently appeal to you for justice and accountability regarding the gross human rights violations committed by the Pakistani state to suppress peaceful voices.
Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan's largest political party, had announced a peaceful rally on March 8th, 2023, to launch the election campaign for the upcoming Punjab elections. Unfortunately, the current government unleashed a wave of violence and terror on peaceful protestors who were simply exercising their right to freedom of speech and expression.
Innocent civilians and media personnel were unlawfully arrested, detained, and even subjected to extra-judicial custodial murder of Ali Bilal aka Zille Shah. Shocking videos have surfaced of police officers attacking civilians and vandalizing their vehicles, leaving them injured and bleeding on the streets. This situation is reminiscent of the Kashmir conflict, with police in civilian clothes also seen vandalizing vehicles alongside the Punjab Police.
On International Women's Day, women were also under attack in Pakistan, and our mothers and sisters are not safe. The situation is akin to the law of the jungle, where state terrorism is being used to suppress a peaceful rally. The absence of the rule of law and the rampant abuse of power is at an all-time high. Images of violence are fueling public resentment towards the fascist ruling elite.
As the highest court in Pakistan, we appeal to the Supreme Court to conduct an immediate investigation into those responsible for these atrocities and take necessary actions to prevent further human rights abuses. We also call for the release of all peaceful protesters who have been detained and arrested without due process. The Pakistani government's actions are a clear violation of the rule of law, and those responsible for gross human rights violations must be held accountable.
We also urge international human rights organizations to ensure that justice is served and the principles of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law are upheld. The constitutional rights of Pakistani citizens must be respected and restored. Women, in particular, are under attack in Pakistan, and we urge for their safety and protection.
We remain hopeful that the Supreme Court and international human rights organizations will take decisive action to uphold the rule of law and restore justice and democracy in Pakistan.
