Urgent: Advocate for Safe Parking and Stability for RV Families in District 7
The Issue
As of August 1st, low-income families and individuals living in RVs in District 7 are facing an impending crisis. The threat of displacement looms large, and without immediate action, these residents may be pushed into homelessness. These are not mere statistics, but real people—our neighbors—who have been forced into this difficult situation through no fault of their own.
For over three years, the Coalition on Homelessness and our dedicated allies have worked tirelessly to support these communities. We have engaged with city officials, advocated for better housing solutions, and provided as much assistance as resources allow. However, the need far exceeds the available resources, leaving our most vulnerable residents in a precarious situation.
This community has endured more than its share of hardship, including harassment, insecurity, and traumatic moments. The RVs are not a chosen lifestyle but a last resort brought about by the pandemic’s economic impact. Despite these challenges, the residents of Distric 7 have demonstrated remarkable resilience. They maintain their neighborhoods with care, look out for one another, and strive to keep their environment clean and safe.
The immediate and most effective solution to this crisis is to open a designated safe parking site. Such a site would offer these families and individuals a secure place to park overnight without fear of displacement or harassment. It would provide a critical temporary relief while longer-term housing solutions are pursued.
We urge you to support this petition and help us advocate for the establishment of a safe parking site. By signing, you are standing up for dignity, safety, and stability for those who need it most. Let’s ensure that our city shows compassion and takes action to protect its most vulnerable residents.
Your support is crucial. Please sign this petition and help us make a real difference in the lives of our neighbors who are facing an uncertain future.
