As an Aboriginal person living on the Central Coast, I am directly feeling the impact of the severe GP shortage in our region. The Central Coast has only one Aboriginal Medical Service, and like many in our community, I have struggled to access timely care. This crisis is making it even harder for our people to receive culturally safe and essential health services.

Thousands across our region are experiencing delays in accessing primary health care because there simply aren’t enough doctors. The longer we wait for care, the worse our health outcomes become. This isn’t just a shortage—it’s a failure of the system to meet the needs of our growing community, particularly Aboriginal people who already face significant barriers to healthcare.

We need urgent action from the government to address this crisis—by investing in recruitment and retention of GPs, improving health infrastructure, and ensuring adequate support and training for medical professionals on the Central Coast. Our health and well-being should not be put at risk due to inaction.
