As local residents, we believe that the numerous multi-car collisions that have occurred at the junction of Old Wokingham Road and Easthampstead Road are avoidable and that urgent action is needed to make this junction safer - The most logical and cost effective solution is to install traffic lights to control the junction.

This is complicated by the land ownership - that part of Old Wokingham Road belongs to Bracknell Forest Council, while Easthampstead Road belongs to Wokingham.

This division of land ownership and responsibility has enabled this to fall between the cracks of BOTH councils and so this petition is aimed at both Wokingham Borough Council AND Bracknell Forest Borough Council  

This junction was the site of multiple serious multi-car collisions in 2024, with many more incidents reported in previous years. The trauma is immense and the pleas for change constant. Yet, despite this, necessary safety improvements to this gravely hazardous junction remain elusive. 

The urgency for substantial change cannot be overstated. We ask that Bracknell Forest Council and Wokingham Borough Council take immediate action to improve the conditions at Old Wokingham Road and Easthampstead Road.

It is the Council’s responsibility to ensure the safety of its road users – an obligation that has been ignored for too long with this perilous junction.

We request that the Council urgently study effective traffic calming measures and implement robust accident prevention strategies.

This situation is not just a local issue - it is a matter of public safety, human loss, and shattered lives.
