Urgent Action Needed: Protect the Hindu Minority in Bangladesh from Persecution

The Issue

To the United Nations Human Rights Council,

We, the undersigned, express our grave concern regarding the escalating persecution of the Hindu minority in Bangladesh. We urge the UNHRC to take immediate action to address this urgent human rights crisis.

Evidence of Persecution:

Targeted Violence: Hindus in Bangladesh are facing a surge in violent attacks, including physical assaults, vandalism of temples and homes, and even killings.

Discrimination and Marginalisation: Hindus experience systemic discrimination in employment, education, and access to justice.

Threats to Religious Freedom: Restrictions on religious practices, forced conversions, and land grabbing targeting Hindu temples are becoming increasingly common.

Suppression of Dissent: Hindu leaders and activists who speak out against these injustices face harassment, intimidation, and arbitrary arrests, exemplified by the recent detention of Chinmoy Krishna Das Maharaj.

Call to Action:

We urge the United Nations Human Rights Council to:

Condemn the violence and discrimination: Issue a strong public statement condemning the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh and calling on the Bangladeshi government to take immediate steps to protect their rights and ensure their safety.

Investigate human rights abuses: Launch an independent investigation into the human rights situation of Hindus in Bangladesh, documenting the extent of the abuses and identifying those responsible.

Demand accountability: Call on the Bangladeshi government to hold perpetrators of violence accountable and ensure access to justice for victims.

Impose international pressure: Consider targeted sanctions and diplomatic measures against individuals and entities complicit in the persecution of Hindus, if the Bangladeshi government fails to take meaningful action.

Provide international protection: Offer support and protection to human rights defenders and vulnerable members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

The international community cannot stand idly by while a religious minority faces systematic persecution. We urge the United Nations Human Rights Council to act decisively to protect the fundamental rights of Hindus in Bangladesh and ensure their safety and dignity.

Message to all Hindus around the world:

धर्म एव हतो हन्ति धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः ।
तस्माद् धर्मो न हन्तव्यो मा नो धर्मो हतोऽवधीत् ॥

The phrase means, the one who destroys dharma, dharma destroys them, and one who protects dharma, dharma also will protect them. That’s why dharma should never be destroyed so that the destroyed dharma can never destroy us.

For protection of our Dharma please sign this petition to add your voice to this urgent call for action!

Thank you so much!
