Urgent Action Needed: Expand Animal Shelter in McDowell County Now!
The Issue
We, concerned citizens of McDowell County, urgently call upon our local authorities to address the critical need for expanding the animal shelter in our community. The current situation is dire, with overcrowding and limited resources putting both animals and staff at risk. It is imperative that immediate action be taken to alleviate this crisis.
On September 14th 2022 the Commissioner P.Ellis stated he would not put children's needs above animals. When they purchased a new county building they already placed those needs of children and animals at the bottom of the list. Why do we spend money on material things like a new office but we cannot spend money on a facility that helps the animals in our community?
Our community needs to start looking at meeting minutes and be more aware of who we are voting into office. We have to be the change.
1. Overcrowding Crisis:
The existing animal shelter in McDowell County is severely overcrowded, leading to compromised living conditions for the animals housed there. This overcrowding not only affects their physical health but also their mental well-being. Expanding the shelter will provide more space for these vulnerable creatures and improve their chances of finding forever homes.
2. Limited Resources:
The current animal shelter lacks adequate resources to meet the growing demand for its services. Insufficient funding has resulted in a shortage of essential supplies such as food, bedding, medication, and veterinary care. By expanding the facility's capacity, we can ensure that these vital resources are readily available to all animals in need.
3. Community Safety:
An expanded animal shelter will contribute significantly to public safety by addressing issues related to stray or abandoned animals roaming our streets unchecked due to lack of space at the existing facility. A larger facility would enable better management of these animals while reducing potential risks such as bites or accidents caused by unattended strays.
4. Economic Benefits:
Investing in an expanded animal shelter brings economic benefits to our community as well. Studies have shown that communities with well-maintained shelters experience increased tourism and higher property values due to improved quality of life for both residents and pets alike (source: American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
5.Support from Animal Rescue Advocates & Fosters:
The county has reckonized this at several meetings and still sit and do nothing. Meanwhile we spend OUR tax dollars on remodeling a building . If we want change we then we have to work together and stand up for our animals. Other states are putting people in jail for abandonment or abuse of animals, meanwhile we just say " don't do it again"! We have voted in greedy individuals that are more worried about vanity than poverty or animals being neglected. Next election I guarantee we remember who helped the people and animals that needed it. Our voice will be heard the next time.
We, the undersigned, implore our local authorities to prioritize this matter and take immediate steps towards expanding the animal shelter in McDowell County. The lives of countless animals are at stake, and we cannot afford any further delays. Let us come together as a community to provide a safe haven for these innocent creatures and demonstrate our commitment to compassion and responsible
