The Issue

The Wheatland Town board is in discussions again with Robin Energy on their proposal to bring battery storage to the town of Wheatland.

Robin Energy brought their proposal to the town at the end of last year and residents made clear their opinion on the project. At that time the board indicated they would not send a positive recommendation to Kenosha County if they felt their residents were opposed to the project. Robin Energy is, however, back with a proposal and the Town Chairman has met with them to discuss the project again.

Robin Energy plans to establish a large scale battery storage facility in Wheatland. However, such facilities have been known to pose risks, including potential fire hazards, toxic chemical leaks, and disruptions to local ecosystems. According to a 2022 study by the National Fire Protection Association, battery storage sites have been involved in incidents of spontaneous fires, some resulting in evacuations and significant property damage. Communities like ours, with limited resources, may face considerable challenges in managing any such crisis effectively.

Moreover, this project could have long-standing negative impacts on property values and local wildlife. Battery storage facilities are often accompanied by increased noise and traffic, both of which can disrupt the peaceful rural nature of Wheatland that residents cherish. Furthermore, data from a 2021 report by the Environmental Conservation Board shows that the construction and operation of such facilities can lead to habitat disruption, affecting local flora and fauna. Wheatland Center school's location to the proposed site should also be taken into consideration.

We urge the Wheatland town board to consider the voices of its residents. The potential disadvantages of the Robin Energy battery storage project far outweigh its benefits. Our community deserves to thrive in a safe and sustainable environment, free from the looming threats associated with industrial projects of this scale.

By signing this petition, you truly make a difference. Help us send a strong message to our town leaders that Wheatland's priorities should remain focused on safeguarding the well-being of its residents and preserving its natural heritage. Please sign this petition and urge the Wheatland town board to vote NO on the proposed Robin Energy battery storage project.
