As a resident of Washington, NC, I am deeply concerned about the current state of our city council. With a vacant seat lingering without a transparent and open application process, the citizens of Washington are left searching for representation and a fully functional governing body. This vacant seat impacts our community's ability to address pressing local issues effectively.

The open council seat holds significant importance. It is not merely about filling a vacancy, but about ensuring that the people of Washington, NC, have a voice.

We ask that the council open the application process for a period of 30 days, after which time the council will vote for a qualified candidate of their choice.  It is our hope the council will hold the vote in open session after the 30 day period has expired.  The person with the most votes will be declared the new city council member and fill the vacant seat until the next election cycle, pursuant to city statute.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a fair chance for all qualified citizens of Washington, NC, to serve their community through an open and transparent application process.
