Urge WA Government to Establish a Wildlife Safari Park in Perth

The issue

Growing up in Perth, I've cherished the beauty and uniqueness of our Perth Zoo.

The beloved Perth Zoo has done and continues to do a phenomenal job of redeveloping their beautiful botanical grounds and animal enclosures. I do believe at a point it will be difficult to expand geographically within such an urban area as South Perth. This is disheartening for wildlife enthusiasts and the public who adore animals and would love to see even more expansive enclosures for them.

As the partner of a dedicated Zoologist and an avid animal lover myself, I envision a place complimenting Perth Zoo, where animals can roam on hundreds (or even thousands!) of acres and where the community can learn about biodiversity and conservation.

A wildlife park situated on sprawling Western Australian land, no more than 50 minutes from the CBD would be a fantastic addition! Western Australia has the space… so why not use it!

This park would hold the potential to become a significant educational and conservation hub, offering habitats tailored to animals well-adapted to Perth's hot climate as well as the ability to house big breeding herds.

Places such a Woburn Safari Park in London UK (image credit), Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig Scotland (Royal Zoological Society of Scotland) and a bit closer to home Monarto Safari Park in South Australia, are all inspiration for this proposition.

Plans for a wildlife park in Perth were unfortunately abandoned in 2017 with the change of government (see link). It's time we breathe life back into this idea!

Perth Zoo is a beautiful place to visit and a sister addition in the form of a wildlife safari park could offer even more opportunities for conservation, tourism and employment!

It would be a shining example of our commitment to preserving the environment.

I urge the Western Australian government to revisit and prioritise this potential project. I recognise this will not be a small project and will have a large funding requirement.

However, I also believe we need to prioritise conservation and breeding programs so that there are these beautiful animals for our future generations.

Let's not only imagine but empower our community to grow in harmony with nature, creating a legacy of environmental stewardship for generations to come.

Join me in advocating for the establishment of Western Australia's new wildlife haven, fueling for positive environmental change in our community.

Sign the petition and help make this dream of a wildlife park in Perth, Western Australia a reality.
