We, the undersigned, call on Victorian election candidates to commit to a Duty of Care to protect young people and future generations from climate change.

Young people and future generations will be worst affected by climate change. Yet, these interests are not recognised or protected in government decision-making. Our decision makers have a responsibility to ensure that decisions made today do not put their health, safety and future at risk.

A Duty of Care means that our elected representatives must exercise their powers with the health and wellbeing of young people and future generations at the forefront of their minds. What is their job, if not to hand down a world to the next generation that is safe and liveable?

We call on all candidates in the upcoming Victorian state election to commit to legislating a Duty of Care in the next term of government, helping to ensure that future generations are protected from the growing impacts of climate change.
