The Issue

As a devoted lover and protector of our equine companions, I am deeply concerned about the current outbreak of the Equine Herpesvirus (EHV), a potentially fatal and incredibly contagious virus. The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) must take immediate and decisive action to cancel all upcoming equestrian events to curb the spread of this deadly virus. I'm not affiliated with USEF events, but the wellbeing of every horse should matter to us all.

EHV poses a significant health threat to horses across the nation, affecting all breeds and disciplines without discrimination. Currently, there is a complacent attitude undermining the gravity of the situation by assuming that certain classes, like dressage, won’t be affected. However, the reality is stark – EHV does not distinguish between disciplines and can cause significant harm and fatalities among all equine participants.

According to veterinary experts, EHV spreads rapidly, especially in environments where horses congregate, such as horse shows. The American Association of Equine Practitioners warns that this virus can lead to devastating neurological damage, and in some cases, even death. Preventative measures are crucial, as treatment options are limited once infection occurs. For the safety of our beloved equines, large gatherings must be halted until the outbreak is under control.

The USEF holds a position of authority and influence in the equestrian world. With that comes the responsibility to safeguard horses by preventing further spread of the virus through canceled events. Delaying action is not an option as it puts countless horses at risk and threatens the equestrian community's future.

By signing this petition, you join the call urging the USEF to prioritize equine health by making the responsible decision to cancel all shows until EHV is effectively managed. Your signature can help save lives and protect our equine partners. Act now to secure a safer future for every horse involved in sport and leisure.
