Urge University College London to Preserve George Orwell's Works

The Issue

As passionate "RetroFuturists" who draw endless inspiration and wisdom from the profound works of George Orwell, we find ourselves greatly concerned. Currently, assets, letters, and various other paraphernalia associated with the esteemed author are being sold privately by the parent company of his publisher's Victor Gollancz. This collection is not only intrinsic to the development of our table-top games, but it also holds immense cultural value that needs to be honored and preserved.

Orwell's literature offers an irreplaceable depiction of our human history and has birthed the aesthetically pleasing genre of Dieselpunk; an off-shoot of SteamPunk. His visionary works provide salutary lessons while offering a deep, prophetic insight into societal norms. Losing these assets to private ownership could greatly diminish the influence and outreach of these significant pieces of literary history.

This is why we urge the University of College London and the George Orwell Archive, in particular, to step in and purchase these vital pieces of Orwell's heritage. Considering that Orwell has such an established connection with UCL - they have a Youth Writing Prize in his honour and that they already have a collection dedicated to him, it seems a fitting home for these assets to ensure they are made accessible to the public. We should not allow a profound loss to our culture and writing heritage.

Preventing the privatization of these items will not only act to safeguard Orwell's legacy, but it will also allow future generations to learn and draw from these precious facets of literary history. Let us together champion the protection of our shared cultural heritage. Please sign this petition and aid us in our quest to preserve George Orwell's influential works.
