The Issue

President Trump just announced he’ll sign a sweeping executive order on artificial intelligence — one that would override state efforts to regulate this fast-moving technology.

But nowhere in his plan has he mentioned how this will protect the most vulnerable group of all: children.

That’s a dangerous oversight.

AI is already being used to shape what children see online, how they’re taught in classrooms, and what toys they interact with. It’s also being abused to generate child sexual abuse material, spread deepfakes featuring minors, and deploy surveillance tools in schools without proper guardrails.

If this executive order is going to replace state-level rules, it has a responsibility to raise the bar — not lower it.

We call on President Trump and his administration to explicitly include protections for children in any federal AI framework.

That means banning AI-generated child abuse material, restricting invasive AI tools in schools, ensuring transparency in algorithms used on kids’ platforms, and protecting children’s mental health from manipulative AI systems.

Without clear safeguards, this executive order could wipe out hard-won child safety measures in states like California, Illinois, and New York — leaving children everywhere more vulnerable than ever.

AI is not just about beating other countries in a race. It’s about building a future we want our children to grow up in.

Add your name if you agree: no federal AI policy should move forward without strong, enforceable protections for kids.
