As the founders of Michigan Duck Rescue, we have seen firsthand the tragic consequences when ducks are purchased on a whim from stores like Tractor Supply, Rural King, Family Farm and Home and other local neighborhood pet and feed stores then abandoned out in the wild to fend for themselves.

We currently care for nearly hundreds ducks at any given time consistently for almost two decades that have been left in the wild or surrendered because their owners could no longer look after them. These innocent animals deserve better.

Ducks are not simple pets; they require specialized care and commitment that many people are unprepared for when they make an impulse purchase. The result is often abandonment, which is both cruel and illegal. According to multiple verifiable sources thousands of pet ducks are abandoned each year in the United States alone. 

By selling live ducks, these stores are contributing to this problem. We believe it's long past due for them to take responsibility and stop making these innocent lives available for impulse purchases.
