Why this petition matters

Started by Angela van Breemen

At present, members of the Innisfil community are told by the Town of Innisfil that if they encounter injured, sick, or orphaned wildlife in distress to handle the situation on their own or call the MNR or local Wildlife Rehabilitation Centres.

The MNR and Wildlife Rehabilitation Centres are overrun with animals and do not have the staff or volunteers to come and help with individual situations.

We need Innisfil Township Animal By-Law Officers to be reinstated to help our wildlife and lost pet cats (which are considered by the Town to be wild animals). Currently, the town will only help dogs.

Due to no fault of their own, wildlife is being squeezed by increasing urbanisation and highway construction into smaller and smaller habitats resulting in more interaction with humans.

Innisfil residents are encountering more orphaned wildlife and injuries because of car collisions. Kind-hearted people are desperate to help these wild animals and have no recourse since the Town of Innisfil says that this is not their concern.

The result is many unnecessary deaths to our precious wildlife and the risk of exposure of disease to people unaware of how to handle wild animals.
