Urge Thorough Investigation of John and Madeleine Leonard Unsolved Murders

Urge Thorough Investigation of John and Madeleine Leonard Unsolved Murders
The Issue
Our Father, John W. Leonard, Sr., was brutally murdered on September 8, 1970, while driving his taxicab to Buck Hill Falls Inn. He was found shot to death with several gunshots to the head. Two years later, our Mother, Madeleine G. Leonard, met a similar mysterious fate. On February 21, 1973, she had been waitressing at a Rotary Dinner at the Top Hat Restaurant in Mountainhome, PA. Around 10:00 pm, she called my twin sister and me, stating, "I am going to Mt. Pocono to check out a lead on your father's murder and will be home shortly." Tragically, she never returned home. She died in a suspicious car crash. The funeral home demanded we provide a high collar blouse covering her neck up to the jaw line be provided for her funeral. In 2022, the county coroner confirmed that Madeleine's cause of death "a broken neck is not consistent with that car crash". Sadly, no further investigation was done.
John Leonard was a decorated WWII Veteran and a POW for 22 months and Madeleine Leonard was a Gold Star Mom who lost a son in Vietnam.
These tragic and unresolved events have haunted our family for decades. The pain of losing both parents under such violent and suspicious circumstances is magnified by the absence of justice and closure. Despite the brutal nature of these crimes, the investigations have stalled, leaving our family without answers or peace. Sadly my Twin Sister and I are the only surviving siblings left out of five orphaned children as our three brothers have passed away.
It is imperative that the local law enforcement agencies, including the Monroe County District Attorney and Coroner's Office, and the Pennsylvania State Police re-examine these cases with modern forensic techniques and renewed determination. Advances in forensic science, such as DNA testing and digital crime scene reconstruction, offer new tools that could potentially reveal overlooked evidence or lead to new insights.
We ask for a newly dedicated task force to be assembled, including seasoned detectives and expert forensic analysts, to re-investigate and solve these tragic murders. The loss of John W. Leonard, Sr., and Madeleine G. Leonard should not be forgotten, and their killers must face justice.
