Urge the TTB to Define and Approve "American Single Malt Whiskey"

Urge the TTB to Define and Approve "American Single Malt Whiskey"
The Issue
Despite the increasing interest and production in American Single Malt Whiskey, there isn't a formal, government-approved definition for this type of spirit yet. Our goal is to convince the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to issue the final rule with a formal definition for "American Single Malt Whiskey." This change is significant in ensuring the consistency, quality, and transparency of the production of this rapidly growing American spirit category.
As of 2024, there are over 250 distilleries producing American single malt whiskey. This number has been steadily growing as the category gains more popularity and recognition.
According to the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission, there's a great demand and potential for domestic and international growth for American Single Malt Whiskey, with at least 150 distilleries in the United States producing it. Nevertheless, this growth and transparency are stifled without a formal definition and regulation from the TTB. Therefore, we urge you to add your voice to thousands of supporters to instruct the TTB in officially defining what constitutes an "American Single Malt Whiskey". Please sign this petition.
