Urge the PYLUSD Administration to Extend the Dual Language Academy to Include High School

The Issue

This plea comes from a caring community of families, children, and supporters deeply invested in the Dual Language Academy (DLA). Our young learners have ardently pursued biliteracy throughout their elementary and middle school years, clinging to the promise of a comprehensive academic path that extends through high school.

The DLA has equipped countless students with invaluable bilingual skills, fostering intercultural understanding, enhanced cognitive abilities, and preparing these students for a globalized workforce. A report from the American Councils for International Education highlights that bilingual students often show enhanced problem-solving skills, creativity, and have better career prospects (American Councils for International Education, 2017). Moreover, our families have seen firsthand the enriching impact a DLA program has on their children's lives and academic development.

However, the end of middle school leaves these students with a looming uncertainty as no provision currently ensures their continued growth in this innovative, engaging learning environment through high school.

Therefore, we urgently petition the school district to ensure the expansion of the Dual Language Academy to include a high school curriculum. This proposition is not merely a request, but a call for our children's right to fulfill their potential as biliterate, intercultural citizens prepared for a global world.

Let us uphold our promise to our children. Help us to secure the future of our dual language learners today. Please sign this petition and urge the school district to extend the Dual Language Academy through high school.
