Urge the President of Village of Lawton, Michigan to Resign over Youth Baseball/Softball Field Issue
The Issue
Our beloved local baseball/softball fields are under threat, with potential devastating consequences for Lawton's children and youth community. This is personal to me - I grew up on these fields playing ball. My sister did too, coached by our dad. My two boys also carried on this tradition. My youngest is about to start tee ball this year, and it's heart-wrenching to think he might not have that chance.
The Village's "Master Plan" ominously proposes for the fields that our Youth Baseball/Softball teams play on to be sold off for profit. This prioritizes personal greed over community-based youth programs. The village council have turned a blind eye, refusing to aid in covering the costs of finding a new location, big enough to accommodate fields, parking, and building costs for infrastructure like dugouts, fencing, concession stands, and bathrooms.
The Lawton Youth Baseball/Softball program stands to suffer seriously - potentially closing down - unless urgent action is taken to oppose this destructive plan. This program has been a crucial part of the local community for years, and it's a part of the rich vein of community spirit in Lawton. We cannot stand by and let this happen.
We are calling on the President of the Village of Lawton, Michigan, to resign due to this clear display of prioritizing profit over our children's futures. We need someone in charge who values our community and the wellbeing of our children. Sign the petition and stand up for Lawton's Youth Baseball/Softball program today.
