In October 2023, the National Football League (NFL) sent a cease and desist letter to my beloved University of Houston over our use of Oilers-themed uniforms for our football team. This action by the NFL has deeply affected me and many others who have an emotional connection with these uniforms. The Houston Oilers were more than just a football team; they represented our city's spirit, resilience, and love for sports.

The Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans are both successors of the original Houston Oilers franchise in their own right. It is only fair that these two teams should have an opportunity to compete for the rights to use the name 'Oilers' and its associated colorway.

We propose that this matter be settled on the field - where it belongs. Let's have a special game between Texans and Titans decide who gets to carry forward this cherished legacy.

This isn't just about sports branding; it's about preserving history, honoring tradition, and maintaining respect for what fans hold dear. The NFL has always been about competition, so let's bring this issue back into that realm rather than leaving it in legal paperwork.
