Urge the Ministry of Defence to Stop Using Real Bear Fur in Uniforms

The Issue

I am deeply passionate about preventing animal suffering in all its forms. This concern extends to the use of real bear fur in military and ceremonial uniforms used by the British Forces. The Ministry of Defence continues to purchase bear fur, a practice that contributes significantly to animal cruelty.

It is estimated that it takes one bear's life to make just one guard's hat (source: PETA). These animals are often hunted and killed solely for their fur, causing unnecessary pain and suffering. Moreover, this practice also threatens biodiversity as many bear species are already under threat due to habitat loss and climate change.

The use of real fur is not only cruel but also outdated. Many synthetic alternatives on the market mimic the look and feel of real fur without causing harm to animals. These alternatives are often more sustainable, durable, and cost-effective than their natural counterparts.

We urge the Ministry of Defence to take a stand against animal cruelty by discontinuing its purchase of real bear fur for uniforms. Instead, we ask them to seek suitable synthetic alternatives that do not contribute towards animal suffering or environmental degradation.

Please sign this petition if you believe in a future where our armed forces can uphold tradition without compromising on ethics or sustainability.
