Our diverse community is enriched by the various cultures and traditions that every member contributes. Among our vibrant populace is a sizable number of Muslim families, whose contributions to our society are immense. It is crucial to bring awareness about the historical impact and ongoing contributions of Muslims in our community, and that starts by acknowledging our local Muslim heritage.

In the U.S., the Muslim population is projected to double from 0.9% in 2010 to 2.1% by 2050 (Pew Research Center). Despite these numbers, there is often a lack of understanding and recognition of the historical and cultural contributions of Muslims.

The passing of a proclamation recognising a Muslim Heritage Month by our Mayor will not only be a step towards enhancing this understanding and recognition but will also demonstrate our city's commitment to its multi-cultural identity and inclusivity. This gesture would encourage unity, respect, and mutual understanding amongst all members of our community, a cornerstone of any thriving society.

We urge our Mayor and local government to pass a proclamation recognizing a Muslim Heritage Month, thus providing an opportunity for everyone in our community to appreciate, understand, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Muslims.
