Hello supporters!!!

It's a exciting day! This morning, Bill 216 to include "physical size and weight" in the Manitoba Human Rights Code, was given support by ALL political parties to move the Bill to the Committee Stage!!!!

Special thanks to Shannon Martin, PC MLA for Morris, for speaking to the Bill today, NDP leader Wab Kinew for your continued support, and of course, Liberal MLA for River Heights, Dr. Jon Gerrard for introducing (and re--introducing the Bill).

What this does NOT mean: It does not mean the Bill is passed...yet.

What this DOES mean: The Committee Stage means that our government wants to hear from Manitobans about the Bill, and the possibility of moving it forward to being passed. I don't have all of the details yet of what that means and how you can take part in the Committee Stage to have your voice heard but once I do I will let you know as soon as possible.

Today, I take a deep breathe and acknowledge all of the hard work of advocates who have bravely shared their story to help move this forward. Thank you again to Dr. Jill Andrew in Ontario who founded the #SizeismSUCKS movement, and the late Dr. Moe Lerner of Manitoba for his tireless advocacy. Thanks to Samantha Rayburn-Trubyk of the Little People of Manitoba for all of your hard work, advocacy and optimism!

Manitobans Against Weight Stigma hosted the Flash Mob to Fight Sizeism in front of the Manitoba Legislative Building on October 10th to move or dance are government to change and it looks like we have some movement...to the Committee Stage!!!

There's still work to be done but thanks everyone for all of the support thus far in moving this forward!

Last but not least, it's Dwarfism Awareness Day today!!! Lots to celebrate!!!

Kindly,

Lindsey Mazur, RD, MSc candidate
