Urge the Local Authorities to Reconnect Our Water Pipes

Urge the Local Authorities to Reconnect Our Water Pipes

The Issue

The struggle in our community (Seshego Zone 2, Polokwane) is real. We wake up, and there is no water running from our taps. Our homes are affected, our lives disrupted, and the human right to access clean and safe drinking water is compromised. This has not only affected the health and hygiene of everyone residing in the community, but it has also significantly interrupted our daily routines and caused immense inconvenience.

We have tried communicating with our Counselor and Ward Committee but we are not getting any answers, the lack of transparency is alarming. Instead we are getting subliminal responses. We do not want to resort to violence. This has been going on for 13 months straight. Some days we get a water tanker from Municipality, other times we may not receive it for over a week.

We are not demanding any luxury- just the basic necessity which forms the foundation of our livelihoods. In many jurisdictions, including ours, the South African Constitution recognizes access to water and sanitation facilities as a fundamental human right.
We are calling upon the local authorities to empathize with our situation and implement immediate measures to reconnect our water pipes. We trust that they understand our agony and act promptly to restore water supply to our community.

Join us in our plight. Sign this petition and orchestrate the demand for our right to water. Stand with us; together, we can effect change and end our struggle.
