Re Land Trust timeline
(1) Email sent on 1 August 2026 to the Land Trust and a ticket ID was raised.

Sir

There is little or no water in the lake standing stagnant and  an extremely fowl smell of sewage coming from the lake wafting onto the entire village into the village square and around onto Renaissance Walk. This of course is affecting residents everyday living particularly those whose balconies overlooks the lake.

Our conversation on this matter has been ongoing for a while too.

Hope you can take the matter seriously.

Regards

Romila

Councillor Responses

Timely responses were received from all 3 councillors Austin McGrath, Claire Selby and Denise Scott- McDonald and are as follows -

(1) Email response received from Austin McGrath on 10 August 2026
Dear Romila,
Thank you for reaching out and for sharing the link to the petition. I completely share your concerns regarding the health of the Ecology Park Lake, and it is an issue I am treating with the utmost urgency.
My fellow ward councillor Claire, who is copied into this email, and I have been actively pushing The Land Trust as well as the council to fix the broken pumping equipment. At the last full council meeting, Claire explicitly asked the council to intervene. Unfortunately, the Labour lead council essentially shrugged their shoulders and treated it as though it is not their problem. Despite this disappointing response, we will absolutely keep the pressure on.
We are also trying to find alternative, creative solutions. We are in regular communication with the Ecology Park team and are being kept closely updated on the situation. Claire and I recently visited the site and were briefed on all the ongoing issues, including the potential leak and the involvement of a structural engineer to locate it.
Additionally, we recently spoke with the developer, Knight Dragon, regarding this crisis. They have made a verbal promise to us to help out with the situation if possible. Please be assured that we will push them to keep that verbal agreement, and we are working hard to secure a firm response and a practical solution from them.
Looking ahead, we are expecting a significant amount of CIL and Section 106 funding from all the new developments in the area. Claire and I will be pushing for as much of that money as possible to go not only into the immediate repair of this amazing asset, but also into a dedicated fund to keep, manage, and maintain the park long-term. Sadly, setting money aside for maintenance has been a low priority for previous councillors and organisations such as The Land Trust, but we are determined to change that.
Best regards,
Councillor Austin McGrath | Greenwich Peninsula Ward
Royal Borough of Greenwich, Town Hall, Wellington Street, London
(2) Email response received from Claire Selby on 13 August 2026.
Dear Romila

Thankyou for sending us the petition, I have circulated this into our Green Members Groups. Someone has pointed out that the poll does not mention the location of the lake, I wonder if that can be changed?

I have given the update of our meeting with Knight Dragon to the GPEP team and am awaiting a response.

Regards

Claire
I have subsequently updated the petition to include the lakes location. The circulation appears to be working as signatures are increasing and these are from outside the Greenwich Millennium Village Whatsapp groups.
(3) Response received from Denise Scott-McDonald on 11 August 2026.
Dear Romila,

Thanks for your message.

It looks like a really good petition, and I share some of your concerns.

My question is what do you plan to do with the petition?  Do you plan to send it to the Land Trust yourself?  Would you like me to present it to a Full Council meeting?  If it is presented to Full Council, it means the council gets involves and can follow up your concerns.  Plus you will get the right and opportunity to speak at one of the council meetings about it.  And it may get a little bit more attention.  The next full Council meeting is on 23rd September.  I am happy to chat and walk you through the process if you would like.

I wait for your reply,

Kind regards,

Denise

Subsequently it has been agreed that the petition will be submitted by Denise on 23 September 2026.

Finally there  has  been 5 promoters with a total contribution of £25.9 and has achieved 41 signatures. These are all anonymus promoters.
