On November 12, Xian Tu Zhang, the last survivor among the 16 Chinese plaintiffs who brought a lawsuit against the Japanese government in 1995 passed away in China.
Ms. Zhang was captured and forced into sexual servitude for Japanese soldiers when she was 16 years old and just shortly after her marriage. Her family said she had been waiting for an apology from the Japanese government until the day she passed, to no avail.
The story of Gap Soon Choi, who passed away on December 5, is not much different from Ms. Zhang's. Ms. Choi was 15 years old when she was taken from her home by Japanese police and forced into sexual servitude for Japanese soldiers in Machuria.
In memory of these two victims and all the other 'Comfort Women' who have passed away without receiving justice, let us honor the human rights and dignity they weren't able to recover.
