To the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), Governor Mike Braun, and State Lawmakers:

We, the undersigned, are residents of Southern Indiana who are outraged by the continuously rising cost of electricity in an area that already has the highest electric rates in Indiana and the lack of action to protect everyday Hoosiers from the unchecked power of utility monopolies like CenterPoint Energy.

In 2024 alone, CenterPoint Energy reported over $1 billion in profits, while thousands of Indiana families struggled to pay their electric bills — many forced to choose between utilities, groceries, and other basic needs. This is unconscionable.

Indiana’s electric customers deserve affordable, fair, and transparent utility rates. Instead, we are witnessing rate increases that far outpace inflation, with no intervention from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), whose responsibility it is to ensure that utilities serve the public interest, not just corporate shareholders.

We demand the following actions:

1. Immediate investigation and audit of CenterPoint Energy's pricing structure and profit margins in Indiana.
2. A freeze on any future rate hikes until a full, public accounting is completed.
3. Strong consumer protections and caps on residential energy costs, especially for low- and middle-income families.
4. Reform of the IURC to increase transparency, accountability, and representation of consumer interests.
5. Public hearings in affected communities to ensure our voices are heard.
   This is not just about bills — it’s about justice, fairness, and survival. The time to act is now.

We urge you to stand with the people of Indiana — not with corporate monopolies.
