Urge the government to review the XL Bully ban
The Issue
HELP US MAKE A CHANGE!
My XL Bully is a cherished member of my family, loved and adored like no other. At three years old, she is more than just a pet; she is a constant companion and friend, sharing every joyful and challenging moment with us. Knowing her gentle nature, impeccable behaviour, and calm disposition makes the restrictions placed upon her heart-wrenching. Every day, she faces the world muzzled and restrained, deprived of the freedom to run freely, play, and explore, merely because of her breed—a breed often stereotyped without consideration for individual behaviour.
This breed-specific legislation is not only affecting my dog but also countless others who have shown nothing but loyalty and gentleness. The ban on XL Bullies, while intended to ensure public safety, paints all dogs of this breed with the same broad brush, ignoring the role of responsible ownership. Studies have shown that breed-specific laws do not lead to a significant reduction in dog attacks, with the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stating that there is little evidence to support that such bans are effective measures in enhancing public safety.
Instead, we should focus on measures that promote responsible ownership. Initiatives that encourage and educate dog owners about training, proper care, and responsible behaviour can have a more significant impact on reducing attacks and keeping communities safe. Assessing individual dogs based on their behaviour, rather than their breed, would provide a more accurate picture of threat and safety.
We urge the government to reconsider the current ban on XL Bullies and explore alternatives that emphasize individual assessments and responsible ownership over breed-specific legislation. This balanced approach will help in achieving the common goal of public safety without unjustly penalizing well-behaved dogs and responsible dog owners.
Through understanding and solidarity, let us advocate for fair treatment and the opportunity for every dog to be evaluated on their own merit. I invite you to join me in this mission, to give our beloved pets the freedom and respect they deserve, without unwarranted stigma.
Sign this petition to demand that the Government rethinks the current XL Bully ban, aiming for solutions that ensure safety while respecting the rights of responsible dog owners and their loyal companions.
