Urge the Government Services Administration to Preserve the San Antonio Missions Park

The Issue

As a Texas History teacher and a frequent visitor to the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, I understand the value and historical significance of this beautiful place. Regularly, I teach my students about the Spanish colonization in Mexico and Texas, and the missions form a crucial part of our curriculum. Moreover, these sites serve as a living testament to our shared history and heritage - from Mission Concepcion, with its beautiful painted sanctuaries, to the active Catholic churches where people worship every Sunday.

However, these sites are under threat. The lease for the law enforcement facility, which ensures the safety, accessibility, and proper maintenance of the Missions, is at risk of being terminated by the Government Services Administration. Without this lease, the safety and preservation of these indispensable historical sites could be compromised.

The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park welcomes thousands of visitors annually, some of whom are students on field tours, others - parishioners attending services at these active Catholic churches. Losing this facility could diminish the Park's ability to care for these sites and keep them secure.

Our history, showcased so vividly at these sites, must be preserved. Termination of the law enforcement's facility lease at the Park would be a step in the wrong direction. Let's stand together to urge the Government Services Administration to reconsider this decision. This petition isn't just about keeping a lease, it's about safeguarding our history and heritage for generations to come. Please, add your signature to ensure the future of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.
