My 10.5-year-old Cavalier King Charles, like most of his breed, has Mitral Valve Disease, which leads to congestive heart failure. This month I had to quarter the dosage for the last 7 days of his monthly supply because my veterinary practice was unable to obtain his Vetmedin on time.   

Vetmedin contains pimobendan is a veterinary medication used to manage mild, moderate, or severe heart disease and congestive heart failure in cats and dogs. The supply chain is facing a critical shortage due to manufacturing delays in Mexico City unrelated to COVID-19.  

Boehringer Ingelheim has been rationing the supply since 2019. This is unacceptable.  There is no substitute for pimobendan and this drug is critical for my dogs, and others' pet's comfort and survival.  

Please urge Boehringer Ingelheim to move its place of manufacture immediately or provide a detailed plan of loosening its supply chain within the next 60 days.

Urge the FDA to have a supply chain of Vetmedin.
