Animal testing for cosmetics is an outdated practice that remains tragically legal, with millions of animals subjected to suffering for vanity. This is not just a fight for cats and dogs; it is for the countless animals currently suffering silently in laboratories. 

The Reality of Modern Science

The argument that animal testing is necessary for safety is entirely obsolete. Modern science provides innovative, non-animal alternatives—often called "New Approach Methodologies" (NAMs)—such as human-cell in vitro testing, computer-based simulations, and 3D human tissue models. These methods are not only more humane but often more reliable, efficient, and relevant to human safety than testing on different species.  

The Time for Change is Now

Despite the scientific advancement and availability of these alternatives, some regulatory hurdles remain. However, the tide is turning. As of March 2026, the FDA is actively issuing guidance to phase out animal testing in favor of NAMs. Yet, the fight against cosmetic-specific testing is far from over. Over 110 million animals are still used in labs in the U.S. annually, many of them in chemical and toxicity testing for product ingredients.

We must urge the FDA to move faster and fully endorse non-animal test methods for all new cosmetic products. By doing so, we protect countless animals from needless harm and pave the way for a more compassionate, scientifically forward-thinking future.
