The Issue

In the 2016 referendum on the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union, the people of Scotland voted decisively — 62% chose to remain. Despite this strong preference, Scotland was taken out of the EU as part of the UK's overall decision to leave. This outcome did not reflect the democratic will of the Scottish people. Since then, Scotland’s commitment to European values and cooperation has remained steadfast.

As citizens of Scotland, we continue to share a profound connection with our European neighbours. Our history, culture, and economic ties are deeply intertwined with Europe, and we believe that Scotland’s rightful place is within the vibrant fabric of the European family of nations. We have never turned our backs on Europe and remain hopeful about re-establishing our rightful place as part of the European Union.

We urge the European Union to acknowledge Scotland’s continued enthusiasm to participate in European affairs, uphold shared values, and contribute constructively to addressing continental challenges. Despite barriers, our resilience and dedication to European cooperation have not wavered, reinforcing our desire to strengthen bonds with our European partners.

We request that the EU keep open a pathway for Scotland’s future membership, supporting continuous dialogue and engagement that can facilitate a smooth and amicable transition, should it become viable. By recognising Scotland’s aspirations, the EU would demonstrate its commitment to democratic values and observance of the will of its diverse peoples.

Join us in advocating for Scotland's place in Europe. Sign this petition to support our collective call to the European Union, ensuring that Scotland’s voice for reintegration remains heard and respected.
