Urge the Department of Justice to Investigate Unsolved Murders in Brookhaven, MS

The Issue

Bridget London-Hall & Julian Gayten's names are a painful reminder of the unsolved murders in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Bridget London-Hall, my sister and Julian Gayten, my cousin are among over ten black individuals whose cases have been left unresolved in 2015. This personal tragedy has exposed an alarming pattern of incompetence within the Brookhaven Police Department that needs immediate attention.

Bridget London-Hall a single mother was murdered in her home in front of her children.  Julian Gayten was murdered in his home. These two murders were separate, but both are unsolved even with overwhelming evidence leading to the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.

The lack of progress in these investigations is not just a family issue; it's a community crisis. The failure to solve these murders sends a chilling message to our community - that black lives are not valued enough for justice to be pursued relentlessly.

According to data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as cited by The Washington Post, nearly 40% of murder cases nationwide remain unsolved each year. However, this percentage increases dramatically when victims are people of color. This stark disparity underscores systemic issues within our law enforcement agencies that must be addressed.

We urge the Department of Justice (DOJ) to step in and conduct an independent investigation into these unsolved murders including those of Bridget London-Hall and Julian Gayten. We also call on them to review the practices and procedures used by local law enforcement agencies like Brookhaven Police Department which have failed our community so tragically.

By signing this petition you stand with us in demanding justice for all victims and accountability from those tasked with serving and protecting us. Please sign this petition today!
