Urge the council to build a skate park in Snodland
The Issue
Growing up in Snodland, Kent, I've always had a passion for skateboarding, and it's something shared by many young people in our community. Yet, every time we want to enjoy a safe and challenging skate park experience, we find ourselves travelling to Maidstone or Rochester. These locations are not just burdensome due to distance; they highlight a glaring gap in our own community's facilities. Larkfield offers a skate park, but it sadly lacks the quality and safety features that enthusiasts require. Furthermore, while there is a pump track in Snodland, it's designed specifically for BMX bikes, failing to cater to skateboarders like myself.
Skateboarding is more than just a hobby; it's a form of expression, a source of physical activity, and a great way to bring people together. It offers an outlet for creativity and encourages our youth to stay active, healthy, and engaged within the community. By building a dedicated skate park in Snodland, we can provide a safe and accessible environment for all ages to enjoy skateboarding without having to leave town.
Studies show that access to recreational facilities such as skate parks significantly boosts community wellbeing, reduces antisocial behaviour, and offers positive developmental avenues for young people. According to a Sport England study, communities with adequate sports facilities report higher levels of involvement in healthy activities and improved mental health conditions.
Therefore, we call upon the local council to support our initiative to develop a skate park in Snodland. By doing so, we not only invest in the present and future of our youth, but we also enrich the community fabric with a space where people can meet, enjoy, and thrive. Let's work together to create a skate park that can be a hub of positivity and activity for generations to come.
