PUBLIC MEETING FOR PROPOSAL REVIEW:
Tuesday, February 18, 2025 @ 7:00 PM
1000 Rochester Hills Dr., Rochester Hills, MI 48309
CAUSE:
Our neighborhood, Avon Hills, is a gem that has long held its own distinct charm and spirit, stitched together by a community who cherishes its tranquility and safety. However, the Old Orion Court development project, a 32-unit apartment building, threatens to disrupt the harmony that we've cultivated over the years. The proposed development not only risks overburdening our local amenities, but also poses serious threats on several fronts.
Firstly, the traffic - increasing population density in an area not equipped to handle such surge would undeniably exacerbate congestion. A study by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute points out that when roadways are crammed, accident rates increase dramatically (Source: Texas A&M Transportation Institute). The safety of our residents, especially children and the elderly, is paramount and should not be compromised for any development project.
Second, the environmental consequences cannot be overlooked. Advancing such a large-scale project in the heart of our community could negatively impact our local ecology. Unfortunately, urban development often leads to habitat loss and increased pollution (source: Environmental Protection Agency), which we must aim to prevent.
By allowing the Old Orion Court development to proceed, we risk irreversibly altering the character and nature of Avon Hills and the local neighborhood. So, we urge the Rochester Hills Planning Commission to reconsider and decline the approval for this project. It's about preserving safety, reducing traffic, and safeguarding our environment. Please join the fight to protect Avon Hills. Sign the petition to say no to the Old Orion Court development!
