As a collective group of informed and concerned people, we feel compelled to highlight the distressing situation faced by athletes within Ice Skating Australia. For too long, Australian figure skaters have been subjected to a culture rife with abuse, coercive practices, discrimination, and misuse of power. Many have attempted to voice their grievances, only to be met with silencing tactics and threats of scrutiny if they dare attach their names to these complaints. 

Every day more individuals continue to suffer in silence. The alleged ongoing abuse mirrors the incidents faced by Australian gymnasts, a comparison that serves to underline the gravity of the situation. 

Numerous media reports have surfaced, throwing light on questionable conducts within the organisation. Other concerns highlight alleged financial improprieties, conflicts of interest and issues that allege negligence. These issues have become all too commonplace. These troubling claims only reinforce the need for a thorough, independent investigation into the practices and policies of Ice Skating Australia.

Furthermore, existing benchmarking structures contribute to a culture of fear, further intimidating athletes and discouraging participation. Physical, verbal and psychological abuse continues to be unaddressed. And concerns around constitutional changes in state ice skating organizations around the nation, are causing individuals to fear revoked participation if they daring to raise a genuine concern. It's imperative that this culture be disbanded and replaced by a transparent, fair, and supportive environment that prioritizes the safety and well-being of all athletes.

The Australian sports commission must launch a comprehensive investigation. We call upon them to scrutinize the integrity investigations conducted by Ice Skating Australia, ensure transparency and accountability. Until there is intervention, Australia’s figure skaters are at risk of harm. 

Let's join hands and voices to protect the welfare of those who represent our nation in the sport of ice skating. They deserve to train and compete without fear of exploitation or abuse. We need to foster an environment where issues can be raised openly, without fear of retribution or victimization. 

While the sport remains a minority sport in Australia, it is imperative that external support exists. We humbly urge the relevant authorities to listen to our plea, initiate the necessary investigations, and implement policies that will ensure a safe and equitable environment for all skaters.
