The looming threat of the demolition of Melbourne's 44 public housing towers is deeply concerning. So too is the Australian Services Union's lack of interest in fighting for its members on this issue.

Melbourne's public housing towers are essential for providing affordable and stable long-term housing to people who need it most. The proposed demolition will displace 10,000 people and exacerbate the current housing crisis. This will directly impact workers on the frontline of Victoria's social and community services—many of whom are also ASU members. 

We urge the ASU to adopt an explicit position against the demolition of the high-rise public housing towers. Secondarily, we request that the ASU fight to keep public housing on the sites where the towers currently sit, should the Victorian Labor Government proceed with plans for demolition.
