Thanet District Council will debate our petition on 26 March

We have now had confirmation that Thanet District Council will hold a Debate on our petition - can you come along and support?  It would mean the world to have you there on the night.

Thursday 26 March 2026
7pm
At Thanet District Council, Cecil Square, Margate

A Friends of Pierremont Park representative will have 5 minutes to present our case.

Please come and support us at that meeting - let us know if you can attend by emailing friendsofpierremontpark@gmail.com.

And please keep writing directly to all councillors to make your feelings known about the Pierremont Park Service Depot and why you want it kept in public ownership and brought back in to use to benefit the park - if you agree!

The depot is currently on the market with a guide price of £475K with Clarke & Crittenden estate agents, despite the fact that it is indentured land under a covenant which says it can only be used as part of the park and pleasure grounds - and we believe this covenant forms a Statutory Trust which can't be ignored.

The Town Council are working towards putting in a bid for the land, so that it can be used to benefit the community, but the situation is highly precarious while it is still being advertised for sale. TDC have indicated that:

  • they don't think the covenant is significant - we think they are wrong on that point
  • and they believe this site is "high value" (how can it be if it can only be used as part of the park??)
  • and they need the funds from a sale to do other things with.

Your support is still very much needed.

Separately, TDC have also now said that there will be some Pride in Place money spent to benefit the park, but they have not said that the Depot can be part of any refurbishment plans, when we think it must be a vital component of improving maintenance. The condition of the park as a whole has gone so badly downhill since the Service Depot was closed up.

We are hoping for some kind of consultation meeting so that park users can discuss how they would like this money spent (the amount has not yet been confirmed).   We'll keep you posted if we get a date for that, hopefully before the debate, since everything seems to be moving very quickly at the moment.  In the meantime, you can email suggestions to cllr-Kristian.bright@thanet.gov.uk -and we'd love you to let us know your thoughts too!

Finally, I wanted to let you know that thanks to a wonderful anonymous donor we  have now been able to register the domain name friendsofpierremontpark.co.uk for our website which we can now start to develop and grow. If you'd like to contribute an article about the park,  email us any memories, information, artwork or ideas you'd like shared on there!
