Urge TCDSB to Implement Climate Action Plan

Urge TCDSB to Implement Climate Action Plan
The Issue
Participating in a climate student advocacy and leadership program hosted by EcoSchools has made the TCDSB Climate Crew acutely aware of the environmental impact of our school board. The 197 schools under the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) are contributing significantly to climate change. High energy consumption from HVAC systems and lighting, emissions from diesel school buses, waste from food and supplies, and the carbon footprint of sourced cafeteria foods all play a part in this issue.
The TCDSB has a unique opportunity to serve as a leader in environmental responsibility by adopting a comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CAP). This CAP could drastically reduce our carbon footprint and serve as an educational tool across schools, helping students understand the importance of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Examples of effective strategies for a CAP include transitioning to energy-efficient LED lighting, installing solar panels, promoting carpooling or electric buses for student transportation, initiating zero-waste policies in school cafeterias, and switching to heat pumps. Each of these actions not only reduces environmental impact but also educates and empowers our community.
The collective voices of TCDSB teachers, staff, students, families, and communities are crucial in convincing the board's decision-makers to take immediate action. We must let them know that we care deeply about the environment and demand urgent change.
Join us in urging the TCDSB to implement a Climate Action Plan. Sign this petition to drive the change our community and the planet desperately need.
