Urge state representatives to fund community well-being over harmful initiatives
The Issue
In the past year, we've tirelessly attempted to express our community's urgent needs to our state representatives. Despite traveling in our district, visiting the statehouse, and even journeying to Washington D.C., we were either sidelined, ignored outright, or swiftly dismissed by legislative aides. This experience is disheartening, not only for us but for everyone in our communities who feel voiceless.
Our communities are suffering under the strain of state-funded projects that harm instead of help. Meanwhile, vital areas that allow us to thrive—such as healthcare, education, childcare, and neighborhood rejuvenation—are overlooked. Our elected officials need to hear us: it is time to invest in what truly matters.
Funding healthcare adequately can improve quality of life and productivity. Investing in schools ensures our children receive an education that empowers their future. Childcare support enables parents to pursue jobs, education, or other contributions to society. Recreational facilities and neighborhood improvements uplift community morale, reduce crime, and improve quality of life. Additionally, raising wages, controlling housing prices, and managing the cost of living are essential to ensure families can thrive in our communities.
Moreover, the integrity of our democracy relies on protecting the voting rights that elected these representatives in the first place. It’s imperative they advocate for the protection and expansion of our right to vote, ensuring that every voice is heard and respected.
We urge state representatives to reconsider their funding priorities. Direct resources towards these critical needs that enhance our communities, ensure equity, and provide opportunities for development. We want to thrive, not just survive. Let's make our representatives listen and hold them accountable for the promises they made.
Join us in demanding change. Sign this petition to tell our state reps that community well-being must take precedence over harmful funding decisions, and let's transform our neighborhoods into places where everyone can prosper.
