The Issue

For the past 10 years, enjoying a Starbucks Refresher has been a cherished ritual for me, bringing a splash of joy and energy to my day. The invigorating taste of those fruity beverages was something I could always rely on, a highlight amid the usual hustle and bustle.

Recently, Starbucks decided to change the original refreshers' base, a move that has left many of us heartbroken and dissatisfied. This alteration was aimed to remove the caffeine but resulted in the unique and refreshing flavor that made them so special to be tainted. Countless loyal customers, like myself, are left longing for the experience that no longer exists. Starbucks, were customers really asking for this change?

Change can be good, but not all changes serve the customers' best interests. While innovation and new offerings are exciting, they shouldn't come at the cost of beloved favorites. Instead of replacing the original with a new version, Starbucks could give us more choices. Wouldn't it be wonderful to keep the original caffeinated refreshers without change to the base and then offer a new caffeine-free option?

In the new base, Starbucks has added FRUIT AND VEGETABLE JUICE CONCENTRATE FOR COLOR (CARROT, BLUEBERRY). If you choose to get the one with caffeine which used to just be green coffee flavor this new extract blend includes-  CITRIC ACID, TRISODIUM CITRATE DIHYDRATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, XANTHAN GUM, VITAMIN BLEND(NIACIN, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, CYANOCOBALAMIN. All of this to make the blend shelf stable and highly processed.

For me and I am sure many others as well, hearing that "the base is the same and there is just options of how much caffeine you would like to add", is a complete lie and apparent way to appease people. I blind taste tested the old one, the new one with caffeine, and the new one without caffeine and neither tasted like the original. The only thing these taste like is the concentrate they started selling at Target which I also was disgusted by.

Many of us build comforting routines around these small pleasures, and their removal hits harder than one might expect. Having something changed "for the better" when no one asked for vitamins and vegetable flavors to be added into these drinks, can be quite irritating to the consumer.

Join me in urging Starbucks to listen to the loyal voices of its patrons by restoring the original refresher base. Let them know how much their decision affects our daily routines and happiness. Every signature is a step closer to bringing back the refreshment we once knew and loved.

Sign the petition to show Starbucks the importance of having a choice in our favorite refreshments.
