The Issue

I am writing to express my serious concern regarding the ongoing refusal to provide the legally mandated accommodations for children with special needs. As you are aware, these accommodations are not optional they are required under federal law (IDEA and/or Section 504) to ensure my child’s right to a free and appropriate public education. This is not just my story, but a reflection of the failure of leadership exemplified by Sonja Shaw, the current board president.

Sonja Shaw has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of commitment to the needs of vulnerable students and their families. Her actions, far from supporting the educational community, have been antagonistic, resembling those of a bully rather than a leader entrusted with the welfare of children. Families have voiced their frustrations and concerns, yet they continue to be met with resistance and hostility.

In the role of a leader, there is an expectation to uplift and advocate for all members of the educational community, especially those in most need of support. Unfortunately, under Sonja Shaw leadership, many feel underserved and disregarded. Policies have been enforced that do not reflect the core values of inclusivity and support that are vital in educational environments.

It is essential that we have leadership that genuinely values the educational needs and rights of all students, ensuring they receive the necessary accommodations and support. We need change to rebuild trust and ensure the board's decisions align with the legal and ethical standards required to serve every child's educational needs effectively.

I strongly urge residents of Chino Hills, CA, and those affected by these issues, to join me in calling for Sonja Shaw to step down as board president. It's time for leadership that truly represents the interests of children and families. Sign this petition to demand Sonia Shah's resignation and advocate for a board that prioritizes positive and supportive educational policies for all students.
