Urge Shah Alam Municipal Council to Halt Inhumane Dog Culling and Adopt Humane Measures
The Issue
As a deeply concerned community member, I am appalled by the recent decision of the Shah Alam municipal council. They have approved an act that is not only cruel but also inhumane. A team of inexperienced task force has been formed to catch dogs from 22nd till 24th April 2024 from 8-11pm. Each member of this task force will be paid RM30 per dog as a reward, and these innocent animals can’t be bailed out – they will be killed.
This initiative is heart-wrenching and unacceptable. It raises serious questions about our society's values and attitudes towards animal welfare. Have we, as a community or council, made any efforts to educate the public on animal welfare? Or imparted basic education on Trap Neuter And Release (TNR) methods? Why resort to killing when there are more humane alternatives?
I urge the municipal council of Shah Alam to revoke this approval immediately. Instead, let us open up to more compassionate measures such as TNR - Trap, Neuter and Release - which has proven effective in managing stray populations humanely in many parts of the world.
Moreover, it's crucial for us to work proactively with NGOs dedicated towards animal welfare who can guide us through implementing these humane measures effectively.
We must remember that every life matters and it's our responsibility as humans to protect those who can't speak for themselves.
Please sign this petition if you believe in a compassionate society where every life is valued equally.
